  • Battle of Savhannah

    The southern campaign began in December 1778 when a British force under Lieutenant-Colonel Archibald Campbell landed at Savannah, Georgia, and took over the city. In the fall of 1779 a combined force of French and American troops tried to recapture the city, but failed after suffering heavy casualties.
  • Vincennes

    Lt. Colonel Henry Hamilton had made arrangements with the Indians to reward them for all troops they brought to him. The local French militia leader at Fort Gage, the Chevalier Phillippe de Rocheblave, was caught by surprise and Fort Gage was captured without firing a shot. When the French learned that an Alliance with France had been signed in June, 1778, and that France had declared war on Great Britain, they were glad.
  • Vincennes

    Clark and his group were able to take a British prisoner who told them everything they needed to know. Clark knew he was outnumbered, so he had his men march around in a circle around the fort. The British and the Indians thought there were thousands of soldiers outside. Finally, Clark sent in a flag of truce and asked Colonel Hamilton to surrender.After he took two Indian prisoners and with a tomahawk killed them in front of the Fort, Colonel Hamilton and his men surrendered.
  • Chareston

    14,000 British forces that were in the area attacked Charleston, which was defended by a force of 5,400 local militiamen. After three months of fighting the city surrendered in what may have been the single greatest American defeat in the entire war.
  • Camden

    Continental Congress organized a new army, which it put under the command of Horatio Gates. althought the had more troops, the American troops were almost all inexperienced militiamen, and the British army was very expierenced. Gates and his men didnt last long and ran from the battlefeild. Gates was replaced by Nathanael Greene.
  • Kings mountain

    This battle was located at Kings mountain , South Carolina. was colonial victory. Britains force of 1200 men lost to the americans 900 men. 290 of Britains men were killed ,163
    were wounded and 668 men were captured while americans had 29 killed, 58 wounded and non captured,
  • Cowpens

    Morgan gathered his forces at an area called the “cow pens,” and Tarleton attacked him there. The Americans quickly encircled the British force, and of the original 1,100 men under Tarleton’s command all but 160 were killed, wounded, or captured. Tarleton himself barely escaped with his life.
  • Guilford Court House

    A force of 1,900 British troops under the command of General Lord Cornwallis defeated an American force of 4,000 lead by General Cornwallis. 79 Americans were killed and 93 British
  • Eutaw Springs

    The British won the battle. However, the British realized that, with Cornwallis’s army far away and little hope of resupply or reinforcement, they could not hold on to positions like Eutaw Springs. On the very day after the American assault the British pulled back to Charleston. By the middle of September only Charleston and Savannah remained in British hands.
  • Yorktown

    Cornwallis' army was less than half the size of the American's. We blocked his escape from the peninsula and soon realized escape was impossible. on October 19,1781, Cornwallis surrendered to Washington
