Unit Two: The American Revolution

  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The people of the colonies were getting really mad that the British troops were in the colonies. So the British troops were in Boston and the colonists started throwing things at the troops. The troops had guns so they shot into the crowd killing 3 people and hurting 8 others.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The colonists were angry about the taxes the British government was puting on tea an dlegal documents and other things. One night some men dressed up as Mohawk Indians and got on a boat and threw all the tea into the harbor.
  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    Battle of Lexington & Concord
    The British general Thomas Gage sent British soliders to Concord to destroy the weapons that the colonist had stored in Concord, and the colonists planned on protecting what was theirs. The British also wanted to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams because they were the main leaders of the Revolution. So things got out of hand and the colonist killed 73 British and wounded 174 and the British killed 49 colonists and 39 colonists were wounded.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first major battle of the Revolution. The British won this battle, but they lost many men (almost 250 men were killed and almost 850 were wounded.)
  • The Declaration of Independence Signing

    The Declaration of Independence Signing
    The Second Contenential Congress got together to sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776. The Declaration is a document that explains how our government should run, and the Articals can be changed.
  • Battle of New York

    The British were trying to recapture New York, so they drove Washington from New York. Washinton was then forced to retreat to New Jersey.
  • The Battle of Trenton

    The Battle of Trenton
    General Washington planned on a suprise attack on the British while it was dark, but the attack didn't happen until around 8 a.m. on the 26t, because it was hard for the Continental Army to cross the Deleware because of ice and the harsh weather conditions.
  • The Battle of Princeton

    The Battle of Princeton
    After his victory at Trenton, Washington led his army to the Battle of Princeton. General Washington defeated the British at Princeton also.
  • The Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga was a victory for the American colonists. The British General Burgoyne was forced to surrender.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    Valley Forge was the campsite of the American Army from the winter of 1777-1778. Many men died because of the harsh condititons of the camp.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown
    This battle was the last major battle of the Revolution. The colonists shot at the British army for three weeks until the British General Lord Cornwallis surrendered.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris (1783) was a paper that was signed to say now is the end of the American Revolutinary War. The Treaty said that the American colonies were now their own free nation, and that Britian would remove all of their troops from the colonies.
