Spring 2007 - Hitachi Global Storage Technologies released the The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 in 2007. It is a hard disk drive used for storing data on your PC. As computers demand more and more space for data each year, developers need to create affordable drives to meet the demand. It's a real achievement to finally reach 1TB (that's equal to one trillion bytes!) especially considering that the 1st HDD, the IBM RAMAC 350, was only able to store around 3.75 MB. -
January 9, 2007 - Apple announces the iPhone. Even though it wasn't the 1st smartphone, the Apple iPhone catapulted widespread adoption of smartphones and their technologies. Everything about smartphones has permeated our every day lives. From how we interact, to what we see, and how we feel. -
January 29, 2008 - Apple releases the 1st Gen MacBook Air. Though laptops have existed for longer, the MacBook Air popularized ultrathin laptops, a standard that is still alive today. -
January 2009 - Satoshi Nakamoto mined his 1st bitcoin. Using ideas that he published in his book Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System, he created the 1st peer-to-peer crypto currency. Through market speculation, Bitcoin had made many people rich over it's timespan. Many people believe it to be an alternative to the current financial order.
