    The Kaiser visited morocco, was builing up it's own African empire and had colonies in central and sounthern africa. wanted to show Germany's power in North Africa too so said in a speach that he supported the independence of morocco. the french, who had plans to take over morocco, were furious at this interference,
  • First Morocon Crisis-Algeciras coference.

    Following the trip to Morocco: a conference was held in Algeciras. Instead of cooling things down, the kaiser was humiliated which made him bitter. Britain and France stuck together at the conference to oppose him.

    Austria took over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Russia and Serbia protested however backed down due to German support.

    Before 1908, Germany had no ships when they began building Dreadnoughts. Britain couldn't undertstand why Germany needed these ships, it's empire was small and has a very small coastline. (Britains emprire- 27kmsquared compared to Germany's 2.5kmsquared) Britain felt threatened.

    There was a revolution in Morocco, so France sent an army to take over. Kaiser Wilhelm sent the gunship 'Panther', but Britain and France forced him to back down.
  • Moroccon Crisis (second)

    the French tried to take Morocco with intention to cpmpensate Germany if trade suffered. Kaiser instead sent a gun boat (the Panther) to Agadir. Britain feared that they wanted to set up a naval base there. Another conference was held. the British and French refused to back down. Germnay was given land in central Africa instead.

    1912-1913 there were a series of local wars, Serbia emerged most powerful.
    Serious for Austria- serbia had a strong army and Russia's supposrt. Austria needed to deal with Serbia-looking for excuse.
  • Assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand

    The assasination took place in Bosnia-Sarajevo. Gavrilo Princip, member of a serbian nationalist group named "the black hand" was the killer.
