1800 of Santa Anna's troops begun final battle for control of the Alamo. All Texan fighters were killed or executed. The Alamo defenders remained at their post, fighting for Texas Independence until the last and buying time for the young government to organize.

The constitution was adopted by the Texas convention on March 16th, 1836, but was not signed till the following day. It established a temporary government. It was the frame work put in place to restore order while the final constutution would needed to be voted on.
