  • The First Radio Signal

    The First Radio Signal
    Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, sent the first radio signal in 1895. His sginal was succesfully sent and received by the radio designed by Nikola Tesla. The machine was a "boat" with an antenna that transmitted radio waves. There are also propellers on the boat where mechanical movements are transmitted. This radio was very hard to hear and very few were able to hear human voices.

    The First Radio Broadcast
    The first radio broadcast was held on Christmas Eve from Brant Rock, Massachusetts. Reginald Fessenden, a Canadian engineer, worked for Thomas Edison and he made the "wireless telegraph" carry the human voice on this day.

    In 1920 60% of every family had a home radio. They would listen to the radio for night- entertainment. The opera was a very popular thing for American households and as the home radio increased so did the radio broadcasts. Motorola was the inventor of the home radio, but there were many different brands. This is one of the most common.

    The first car radio was invented in 1929. Galvin Manufactoring Corporation inventors Paul and Joseph Galvin created the idea to put radios in cars. The actual radio had the reciever, switch, and the speaker. This allowed people to listen to the news broadcast in their car.

    In 1933 Edwin H. Armstrong invented the FM radio. The FM radio was to make the stations more clear. He was successful with the FM, but it also allowed more radio broadcast on at one time without interfering with one another.
