Inn 1907, The Dixie Theatre opened seating 980. It was opened by Mr. Tony Sudekum who founded Crescent Theatres. The Dixie was the first Crescent Theatre. It has long since been demolished after closing in 1964.

A force of Special Agents was formed in 1908 by Attorney General Charles Bonaparte under President Theodore Roosevelt. This force of 34 agents was renamed the Bureau of Investigation by Bonaparte's successor Attorney General George Wickersham on March 15, 1910.

Henry Ford produces his first Model T. The Model T, colloquially known as the "Tin Lizzie" or the "Flivver", initially sold for $850, but by 1916 the price was down to $350 because of the increasing efficiency of Ford's assembly line.

Davidson Academy, Cumberland College, the University of Nashville, and Peabody Normal College merge to form George Peabody College for Teachers.

Statewide prohibition is passed over Governor Patterson's veto and goes into effect in 1909. Officials in the four largest cities made little effort to stop the liquor trade. Memphis bars operated openly; Nashville bars closed only on Sunday. In 1912 both cities again licensed liquor dealers. One alcohol trade newspaper claimed that more liquor was being sold in Tennessee than before prohibition.

Halley's comet is first spotted on April 20th. Of Halley's comet Mark Twain famously said, "I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet." Mark Twain passed away April 21, the day after the comet's appearance.

On the night of Monday the 21st a Louvre employee, Vincenzo Peruggia, walks out with the Mona Lisa hidden under his coat. Peruggia is caught two years later when he attempts to donate or sell the painting to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. The Mona Lisa returns to the Louvre in 1913.

In 1912, "America's 1st Combination Candy Bar", the Goo Goo Cluster, was developed. Howell Campbell was the very first confectioner to make a candy bar with multiple ingredients (i.e. with more than just solid milk chocolate).

Opening day of the V Olympiad, Stockholm, Sweden. Held from May 5 to July 22, the Stockholm Olympics were the largest since the revival of the Olympic games in 1896. There were 2,490 athletes from 28 participating nations.

During her maiden voyage across the Atlantic, RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912. The ship sinks two hours and forty minutes later, early on April 15, 1912 resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people.
