  • First Public Community College

    Joliet Junior college was the first public community college in the U.S

  • First Junior High

    The Columbus Ohio school board authorizes the creation of junior high schools. Indianola Junior High School opens that fall and becomes the first junior high school in the U.S.

  • SAT

    The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is first administered.

  • ACT

    In 1959 the first ACT test was administered.

  • Little Rock Nine

    The Little Rock Nine was a group of nine African American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957.

  • Technology

    In 1977 the Apple Computer ( Now apple inc.) introduces Apple 2 and was one of the most successful personal computers and became popular in schools.
