  • 10,000 BCE

    Mesoamerica-First migration to the Americas

    As time passed, land naturally formed into a bridge connecting Asia and Alaska. This land bridge is called the Bering land bridge. Paleo Indians, early people, crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia into Alaska.
    They are the first people in America.
  • Period: 1500 BCE to 1300

    North America-Anasazi

    An early North American civilization is the Anasazi. They were skilled basket makers, potters, farmers, and builders.
  • Period: 1200 BCE to 1532

    Mesoamerica- Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, & Incas

    These civilizations were the earliest known in mesoamerica. The Olmecs developed the first civilization in mesoamerica. They built sculptures and traded with others. after them came the mayans
    Who lived in small villages that developed into large cities. Aztecs settled in Mexico in 1100s AD. They were fierce warriors who built an empire. Incas started their empire soon after the Aztecs did. Incas were known for building and art. These civilizations ended as Europeans discovered them.

    North America- farming societies in eastern North America.

    In the east of North America, farming societies began to develop. Some of these societies, such as the hopewell, and Mississippian, built large mounds for religion or honoring their dead.

    West Africa- Ghana, Mali, and Songhai

    The three major empires and people groups were the Ghana, Mali, and Songhai empires. They came after one another-in that order.

    Scandinavia- Vikings

    The vikings were the first Europeans who sailed to america. They were a group of people who sailed around, looting villages. Leif Erikkson was the viking leader that first landed in Canada.

    Europe- The Crusaders

    The Crusaders were a group of people who took a trip around Europe, forcing various people groups to become Christian; this was called a crusade. The Crusaders had many wars with other people and ultimately failed.

    Europe- Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was a charter that King John of England was forced to sign. It promised basic rights to the common people of England.

    West Africa- Mansa Musa goes on a pilgrimage

    During his rule of Mali, Mansa Musa made a pilgrimage to Mecca, for he was Muslim. During his journey, he and his followers used their immense wealth to buy themselves lots of different things on the way. This caused lots of inflation among these nations.

    Europe- The Black Death

    The Black Death was an important event in history that occurred during the Middle ages. Explorers were bringing back rats that had a disease that spread across Europe. After the Black Death, the most of workers in the continent were dead, so the remaining ones demanded more for their pay.

    Portugal- Technological advances

    People in Portugal had invented many things that let them explore land more efficiently. The astrolabe enabled sailors to tell their location from the stars, and the Caravel was a new ship that could maneuver the sea easily and faster.

    Spain- Discovery of the Americas

    Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, had gained support from Spain's King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to sail across the Atlantic Ocean to find a sea route to the Indies. Instead, he landed in the Americas, later called the New World. Christopher Columbus made 4 trips there in total. He died without knowing that he had discovered a new continent.

    Atlantic Ocean- The Columbian Exchange

    The Columbian Exchange was a trade route that exchanged goods between america and Europe. It started all since Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas. It had much impact on people in those days and people today. Food, slaves, animals, and wisdom were some of the things exchanged between the two continents. It is named after Christopher Columbus.

    America- Start of slave trade

    The Spanish started legalizing laves in america in 1510. Other countries soon followed the Spanish, and soon, millions of Africans were being sent to the Americas to work as slaves.

    Spain- Explorations

    The Spanish established a large empire in the Americas through explorations. Ponce de Leon, Hernan Cortes, and Ferdinand Magellan were one of the many Spanish explorers.

    Europe- Protestant reformation

    The Protestant reformation started when Martin Luther opposed some of the laws of the Roman Catholic church. Today, there are millions of protestants worldwide.

    Africa- The African Diaspora

    10,000 Africans were shipped to america as slaves. There, they scattered across the land. This caused the African Diaspora.

    France- Huguenots in America

    The French Huguenots went to Florida and set up small colonies. The Spanish soon drove the french out and conquered their land.

    America- The 1st permanent English colony in America

    A joint stock company in the 1600s asked King James 1 for a charter to establish a colony in America. This colony, named Jamestown, was located in Virginia, up the James River. This colony turned out to be the first ever permanent settlement in North America. Jamestown is still lasting today as a city in the state of Virginia in the U.S.
  • Atlantic ocean- The Mayflower compact

    Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower were sailing across the Atlantic. Aboard their ship, the Mayflower, they signed the Mayflower compact, which meant they were going to colonize another part of the Americas and rule themselves. They did this to escape religious persecution. They found land and established the colony of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
  • Plymouth- Squanto and Samoset

    A native american named Samoset met the pilgrim settlers in the Plymouth colony. He introduced the pilgrims to Squanto, another native who knew how to speak proper English. Squanto helped the colonists to farm and survive.
  • Maryland- Toleration act of 1649

    This act was a law that made it illegal to restrict religious rights of Christians. This law wast the first official law in America that supported religious tolerance.
  • Spain- The encomienda system

    The encomienda system was a system where the settlers tax the natives of america while giving them protection. instead, the settlers made the natives slaves.
  • America- capturing of new Amsterdam

    The English fleet took over the colony of new Amsterdam and renamed new York.

    America- Delaware in Pennsylvania

    the duke of York sold a part of land, called Delaware, to Pennsylvania. Delaware remained part of Pennsylvania until 1776.
  • England- English bill of rights

    As King James was replaced by parliament, the English bill of rights was created to reduce the power of the monarchs.

    America- Great Awakening

    A religious movement that promoted spiritual equality. It was popular and spread quickly around colonies in America.
  • England- Stamp act of 1765

    This law required colonist to pay for stamps.
