2010's Technology Timeline

  • Apple iPad

    Apple releases the original iPad - On April 3rd, Steve Jobs and Apple released the biggest smart device (in size) with multiple capabilities other devices didn’t have, starting a revolution of smart devices.
  • First Chromebooks

    Acer and Samsung release the first Chromebooks, opening up a whole new world of compatibility and mobility of computers. Chromebooks stay connected to the internet at all times, as well as being easily carried from different locations.
  • 4 TB Hard Drive

    Seagate develops the first 4 TB hard drive, the largest hard drive ever created, opening the world up to even more storage on their computers.
  • Raspberry Pi

    Raspberry Pi, created by volunteers mostly drawn from academia and the UK tech industry, is released. It is a low cost, credit card sized computer that helps teach children to use and create code
  • Windows 8

    Microsoft releases Windows 8. Windows 8 brought new formats and upgrades in security, online services and functionality, and also brought on new features like the Windows Store and a new interface and desktop
  • Apple iPhone 5S

    Apple unveils the newest iPhone in the series, claiming it has the first 64-bit processor to be used on a smartphone. This 64-bit processor is more compatible with any device.
  • Xbox One

    Microsoft releases the newest game console on the market, the Xbox One. The "One" brought new features to online gaming, such as more storage room, faster connectivity, better graphics, new motion sensors, and the use of Windows 10
  • First Eight-Core Processor

    Intel unveiled its first eight-core desktop processor, the Intel® Core™ i7-5960X. This core is one of the fastest and has a base clocking speed of 3.6GHz, which can be turbocharged to 4.2GHz, along with better performance and added boosts in game applications.
  • 13 TB SSD

    Fixstars Solutions releases the first 13 TB SSD. This is the most storage any memory unit can hold in the world currently.
  • Five Atom Quantum Computer

    Scientists at MIT create the first five atom Quantum Computer. This new technology is helping u better understand traditional encryption schemes and is helping us potentially crack the security of these schemes.
