On this day John Brown led 21 men into a federal arsenal in Harpers Ferry. He was trying to free the slaves. -

Abraham Lincoln was elected as president for the United States of America -
Civil War
This was a war between the South and the North. The South wanted slavery, and the North wanted to abolish it. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The South tried to invade the North. This was a turning point in the war. The Union won this battle. -

President Lincoln wrote this proclimation stating that slavery everywhere will be abolished. Now the North had something to fight for. -

The South surrendered here and the North had won the war. This ended the bloodies American wars of all time. -

America had to rebuild itself and make freedom available to all people. This probably would take a long process, but it needed to be done. -
Lincoln Assassinated
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Boot in Fords Theater. He was shot in the back of the head. -
Black Codes
These were secrative codes that the South used. They stated that African Americans still didn't have rights in the South. -
13th Amendment
This abbolished slavery everywhere in America. Now slaves were free anywhere they went. -

Andrew Johnson had a case was might have gotten impeached becuase of crimes and misdemeanors -

This amendment granted freedom to all people that live in America and that laws apply to them. -
