  • Flash-based SSDs

    The first commercial Flash-based SSD was released by SanDisk in 1991. It was a 20 MB SSD. From this, more companies began producing these SSDs and storage capacity for these devices was increased.
  • JPEG

    JPEG image format was introduced in 1992. The name JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the name of the committee which created JPEG standard. Since its creation, JPEG is the most widely used image compression standard in the world. It's also the most common format used by image capture devices.

    Wiki

    The first Wiki was created by Ward Cunningham and called "WikiWikiWeb." It went public in 1995, which is used as it's anniversary. From this, hundreds of thousands of wiki websites have been created. None of which would exist now if not for Cunningham. Given how reliant we are on Wikipedia, it's hard to imagine where we would be without this resource.

    Google search engine

    Google Search, or simply Google, was created in 1997 by Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Scott Hassan. The purpose is to search for texts within documents or images available on the internet. Without this invention, we'd all be taking more trips to the library.
  • Wi-Fi

    Wifi is based on the IEEE 802.11. The first version of the the 802.11 was released in 1997. It provided up to 2 Mbit/s link speeds. With this, we are able to connect to the internet.
