    Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery bus. The arrest of Parks for remaining in her seat lead to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

    President Eisenhower orders federal troops to protect nine African American high school students as they start classes at an all white high school. This is considered the first high level interaction from the federal government against state.

    In North Carolina 4 African American college students sat down at a lunch counter asking for service but are denied. The 4 refused to leave which lead to a larger protest and eventually the desegregation of the lunch counter.

    In Dallas Texas, President Kennedy prepared for his reelection. He was then murdered by Lee Harvey Oswald by gun shot to the head while driving in his motorcade at about 12:30pm.

    MLK was fatally shot by James Earl Ray on the balcony of Lorraine Motel. This tragedy sparked riots nationwide and changed the nation forever.

    Landing on the Moon
    Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins take off from the Kennedy Space Center at 9:32 a.m. aboard the Saturn V rocket. Traveling for 3 days they make it to the moon. Armstrong and Aldrin land the Eagle module on the lunar surface as Collins remains in lunar orbit to pilot the module.

    President Richard Nixon announces his resignation amid impeachment from the Watergate scandal. The scandal exposed the abuses of power by the White House after five burglars were busted breaking in to the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office complex in Washington, D.C. Nixon becomes the only president in U.S. history to resign.
