World War One
In 1914, the archduke of Austria was murdered, which triggered a series of events leading to the first world wide war. The war was between the central powers and the Allies. The central powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey. The allies were France, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, Japan, and, from 1917, the United States. The war ended with the defeat of the central powers. There were a total of 40 million deaths over the course of the four year war. -

The Germans wanted to take out France early so that they could turn to Russia. The campaign had some early success, but the French and British launched a counter attack that sent the German forces retreating. -
The Gallipoli Campaign
The Gallipoli Campaign was an attack on the ottoman empire to allow allied ships to pass through Constantinople. However, the allies underestimated the ottoman troops. The attack was shut down and the allied troops were not able to advance. -
