Angelica Kauffmann was a woman, neoclassical painter who primarily painted history. She was one of the female founding members of the Royal Academy in 1768. This style of art is very characteristic since it started in the late 17th century and had its height at the enlightenment. This art form looked at old classical art from ancient Greece or Rome similar to the way philosophers looked at old ancient philosophers for their ideas during the scientific revolution and enlightenment.
