KOL was a nationwide organization that grew to 800,000 members in the mid 1800's. Its goal was cooperative commonwealth where workers controlled their own work. They also worked to end the 8 hour work day, higher wages. economics rights for women, racial equality, child labor laws and industrial unionism.
