    Missouri Compromise of 1820
    The abolishionist are sick of slavery. The growth is increasing, drastically. The North and South also have lots and lots of fights over it. Henry Clay was the one who finally settled the debate when he said Maine was admitting as a free state, and Arkansas will be a slave state. The compromise helped make laws to balance out the number of slave staes and free states.

  • The Nullification Crisis of 1832

    The Nullification Crisis of 1832
    Due to tarrif laws South Carolina felt that tarrifs were very unfari and only supported the North. John C. Calhoun said that any state can nullify any federal law. But the federal goverenment denied South Carolinas argument, and when they did that South Carolina threatened to secede. So instead of that happening Henry Clay lowered the tarrifs.

    After we went to war with mexico congress had alot of debates over the new states we got from mexico about whether they should be admitted as slave states or free states. Henry Clay as usual found a compromise for the North and South. But congress already said they werent going to ban slavery from all states.
  • Fugitive Slave Act of 1850

    Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
    This act was passed in 1850 by congress. This act permited slaves from being captured who had fled to the North. This convinced abolishionist that racial meseaures were necessary to end slavery. This set the stage for John Browns raid in the American Civil War.

    Election of 1860
    This election was the one that Abraham Lincoln won, even though he said he would not stop slavery. But still people trusted him. But after he was elected states started to secede like crazy.
