    President Madison pressured Congress to declare war. Many of the battles were in Canada and the Michigan area.

  • Erie Canal Built

    This created water travel to make transportation into the main land more efficient.
  • Election of 1828

    Andrew Jackson won with the help of the Tariff of 1828. Jackson was advised mostly by his informal "kitchen cabinet".
  • Indian Removal Act

    Cherokee's were forced to relocate in present day Oklahoma and Kansas when very few agreed with this.
  • Mother Anne Lee and the Shakers

    Led her followers to U.S. and established a church near Albany, NY. they were named for the ecstatic dances that were part of worship
  • The Mechanical Reaper

    John McCormick was interested in Mechanical problems and came to inventing the new reaper.
  • Election of 1836

    Martin Van Buren won against the four other Whig candidates.
  • Panic of 1837

    Too much money was given out to too many people and actual money held in a bank became too scarce. This caused many farmers to bankrupt and have hard times.
  • Michigan joins the Union

    The Great Lakes state joins the Union as a free state.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    U.S. paid Mexico $15 million for more than 1/3 of their territory when before we were offering double that.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    This act assisted the south with maintaining a tight reign on slaveholders property
