The Louisianna Purchase is the acquisiton of the Louisiana Territory by the United States from France. The U.S. paid a total of $15,000,000 for the land.The territory contained what is now Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska as well as portions of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Louisianna. It also contained parts of what is now Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada.

French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, took a photo called the "The View From The Window at Le Gras" at a famly members home. The photo was made by exposing a bitumen-coated plate in a camera obscura for many hours on his windowsill .The Camera Obscura set the stage for many future advances in chemistry and optics.

John Smith, founder of the mormon religion, starts the Mormon LSD church in Fayette Township, New York. Smith claimes that an angel named Moroni came to him n a dream and told him he had burried ancient Hebrew Text that was written on gold plates on a hill in New York. Smith found the plates, spent years translating them, then turned it into the "Book of Mormon" to teach to his new church.
