    The French and Indian War

    The British and French had claims on the same lands and the British wanted France out. George Washington led troops against the French. The Indians who had traded with the French, helped them some, but they lost and ceded the land of New France to Great Britain.
  • The Industrial Revolution

    The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain and move out to America. This brought about Factories and Mass Production of products. A major change from one person making a product from start to finish.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party came about when a group of Colonists calling themselves the Sons of Liberty, dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped a ship load of Tea into Boston Harbor to protest taxes on Tea.
  • Revolutionary War

    The Revolutionary War, starts with the Lexington/Concord shot heard around the world. The Colonists declare themselves free from Great Britain. And announce that they are prepared to fight for this freedom. 1775 -1783
  • Writing of the Constitution

    The writing of the Constitutions of the United States of America took place from May 25 - September 17, 1787. James Madison wrote the document which has served to protect the innate freedoms of American's since that date until now. It guarantees the basic rights of all citizens of America and was signed in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787.
  • Start of the Factories

    Machines had been invented that allowed mass production of materials in a way that had never been imagined before this time. A person skilled in a craft would make something from start to finish, now parts could be made in different factories and assembled in another location.
  • Lewis and Clark Expeditoin

    Lewis and Clark set off to explore the Northwest Territories and find good routes to the ocean. They were to also work out trade deals with the Native People of the lands. As they traveled, they let all the Native people know that this land now was a part of the United States of America.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri entered the as a Slave State and Maine entered as a Free State. Kept the balance of Slave and Free States and Missouri's southern border became the northern most point a Slave State could be.
  • Manifest Destiny

    The belief that God had given to the United States the right of the ownership and control of the continent from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.

    The belief that God had granted the right of control and ownership of the land from the Atlantic to the Pacific Oceans.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Allowed Missouri to enter the Union as a Slave State and Maine to enter the Union as a Free State. Also, made the southern border of Missouri as the northern most boundary for a Slave State to exist.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas was a miniature version of what would happen with the Civil War, the Slavery and Anti Slavery forces fought. This brought about the establishment of the Republican Party, as the Anti Slavery Party.
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War in the United States, ran from Apr 12, 1861 – May 9, 1865 . There was unbelievable death and carnage from this war. It brought about the end of Slavery in the United States and kept the Union intact.
  • President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated

    President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a southern sympathizer.
  • Reconstruction of the Southern States

    The Federal Government passed the Reconstruction Act which ran from Jan 1, 1863 – Mar 31, 1877. Its purpose was to rebuild the south and bring about changes that protected former slaves, increasing their rights.
