    Jamestown
    The first permanent British Colony was established. It was called Jamestown. Was established by the London Company.
  • Period: to

    Jamestown's starving period

    During this time their was fractured leadership, an attack made by the Powhatan Indian warriors, and most importantly major food shortages. Jamestown had struggled with keeping a constant food supply ever since they had established their colony.
  • New Establishment

    The Spain had had sent up a new colony in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
  • Jamestown's Saving Crop

    It was John Rolfe who had planted tobacco. The first tobacco crop was planted and this lead to saving the colony. This allowed the colony to be able to trade with the British and have an income source.
  • First Assembly in America

    The first time that the House of Burgesses are called to an assembly. This happens in Virginia. The first African slaves were brought to America.
  • A Surprise Attack

    After the death of Powhatan, Opechancanough had taken his place. He was sent on sending the new English men back where they came from and devised a plan of attack. On this day, over 350 colonists were killed. This was one third on the Virginia colonists.
  • Rejection

    King James I had rejected a charter from the Virginia Company. Virginia becomes a royal colony.
  • Two New Colonies are Being Added

    The Connecticut Colony was founded by Thomas Hooker. Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams.
  • Early America started to Thrive

    The early colonies started to thrive. They were able to make a living off of agriculture. Families grew to have bigger sizes. Sadly this came with increased tension with the Native Americans because the colonist were in constant need of wood and land. This was the start of the idea of Manifest Destiny
  • New Colony Once Again

    King Charles II grants the charter for a new colony, the Providence of Carolina.
  • Taking Over; New Colony

    English seized the Dutch colony, New Amsterdam. They renamed it New York.
  • Establishing Another Colony

    William Penn receives a royal charter from Charles II so he can establish Pennsylvania.
