Nevertheless, they made it through the hard times and were able to find a staple crop, and eventually became successful in the effort to colonize the new land.

In Virginia, the first representative assembly for the New World took place. This group of representatives was known as The House of Burgesses. It is also the year were slavery, and the slave trade is introduced into America. This year would be the start of a lot of suffering for not only the slaves but the country as it eventually is divided as a result.

Pilgrims from England came to settle in the New World for religious purposes. Also, the men of the colony formed the Mayflower Compact, which was an agreement that would become the essential meaning of colonial government during that time.

The English take control of New Amsterdam and rename it New York. They gain another colony for the soon to be America.
