Jamestown is a settlement in Virginia. It was the first permanent English settlement in North America. It was settled by 104 men, no women. The name comes from King James 1.

Slavery of Africans in America started in 1619. A dutch ship brought 20 slaves to Jamestown. This lead to an abundance of slaves in America. Throughout the 17th century slaves became plentiful. The became cheaper as more and more were imported to America. They turned into a cheap source of labor.

The Mayflower Compact was made by the Mayflower colonists. When the colonist landed in Plymouth they were under no government jurisdiction. I was signed by most of the male colonists who settled the area. The saints granted only themselves the right to vote. The others who came with them would have to wait for there civil rights.

The colony was formed by 1000 puritans. Like Plymouth the land was intended for puritan use. It was set up in order to worship God the way they believed was right. They wanted to "Purify" the church of England.

New England Puritans believed Natives had no place in New England. After settlers accused a Pequot of murdering a colonist, all hell broke loose. The settlers took revenge by setting fire on a Pequot village. As they fled from the burning village, the settlers killed them. It was seen as a fearful sight. This led to counter attacks from the natives. The tension was resolved under the Treaty of Hartford.

Kings Phillip's war was seen as the last effort to drive the colonists out. Native American leaders were tired of English efforts to convert Natives to Christianity and prepared for war. A native warned the English and the same native was found dead a few months later. Colonial authorities convicted 3 Natives and they were hung. This lead to many long and hard fought wars.

Bacon's Rebellion took place in Virginia from 1675-1676. It was the first popular uprising in the American Colonies. It was led by Nathaniel Bacon against Colonial Governor Berkeley. Berkeley refused Bacon's request to drive out the Natives. This angered Bacon leading to the year long revolt.

In 1608, the Spanish government made New Mexico a royal province. This did not sit well with the pueblo Indians. They believed is took away from their ancestral way of life. The Indians organized a large revolt, burning catholic churches, and destroyed all relics of Christianity. I t was the biggest defeat Indians ever put on Europeans trying to conquer the New World.

The Glorious revolution caused crisis in the American colonies. Following ideas of English revolution, rebellions broke out in the colonies. It was a time of tension in the Americas. It was so "glorious" due to the lack of bloodshed within the rebellion.

The Salem Witch trials took place in 1692 in Salem Massachusetts. In the area at the time, many women were accused of practicing witchcraft. This led to a series of trials and prosecutions. Innocent people were accused and killed do to these accusations. Many were so distraught they even admitted to this crime.
