  • James I becomes king of England

    James the first becomes king of England and publishes a bible that is the only religion legal in England
  • James Town is founded

    English settlers arriving under the authority of the Virginia company.The first permanent settlement by English colonist.
  • John Rolfe begins growing tobacco for export

    John Rolfe introduces a new type of tobacco to Jamestown that he finds in the west indes.
  • The first enslaved Africans arrive in English America

    In 1619 the first slaves land at point comfort. They were aboard the English privateer ship White Lion. In Virginia, these Africans were traded in exchange for supplies.
  • Plymouth Colony is founded by Pilgrims

    Plymouth was the second permanent colony set up by the English The colonist formed the mayflower compact which was one of the first documents made in the new world.
  • War between Indians and colonist begin

    In 1622 the Opechancanough led a series of surprise attacks that concentrated on settlements upriver from Jamestown and succeed in killing a third of the English colonist.
  • The Navagation act

    The Navigation act was passed to control the amount of commerce coming into the american colonies. The purpose was to expand the wealth that can be brought from the colonies.
  • King Phillips War 1675-1676

    This war was a last-ditch effort for the Native Americans to take back their land from the ever-encroaching European immigrants. It was also a way for the Native Americans to not recognize the authority of the European colonists. However, the natives were quickly dealt with and the war was short-lived, but also extremely costly for both sides. The war's end was brought about by King Phillip's death, and while the war officially ended in 1676, fighting continued until 1678.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion was fought in Virginia by local colonists fighting against the control of the mercantilist British assigned government and their laws. This rebellion was started by colonists in the interest of ridding the restrictions on foreign goods due to the overly priced British goods.
  • Pennsylvania is established

    The frame of the government of Pennsylvania is established and the colony is officially apart of the English colonies.
