    Landing on Roanoke Island
    The settlers landed on Roanoke Island in 1587. People were dying from starvation and diseases. As soon as they came back, all the settlers disappeared. Later on, it became known as the Lost Colony. Soon it became a mystery and it has still not been solved even today.

    The first colony was a settlement in Jamestown, Virginia. They quickly elected John Smith their leader.

  • The House of Burgesses

    The House of Burgesses
    In 1619, the settlers of Jamestown elected to form The House of Burgesses, which was the first elected assembly.
  • The Mayflower landed!

    The Mayflower landed!
    The Mayflower landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts. They landed on Cape Cod to be exact. The Mayflower carried 102 passengers aboard including a mother that was pregnant.
  • A baby is born on the Mayflower!

    A baby is born on the Mayflower!
    In 1620, a baby was born on the Mayflower in the middle of the sea. The parents of the baby named him Oceanus Hopkins. This baby soon went down history to be the only baby born on the Mayflower.

    On 1621, the Pilgrims held a feast with the Native Americans. It was a feast that held for three days! The Native Americans kept coming back to bring more food. Thanksgiving wasn't for eating though, it was mostly for praying. So back then, the feast wasn't known as Thanksgiving.

    Back then, Dutch settled New York, but at that time they called call it New Netherlands. King Charles II gave New Netherland to his brother James. He took a fleet in the area and later on it was called New York.

    On 1681, King Charles II gave William Penn land in the New World southwest of New Jersey. The land William Penn got was soon known as Pennsylvania, he originally called it Sylvania(meaning woods).

    In 1775, there was a war between America and Great Britain. It was the fight for freedom, which was also why it was known for The American War of Independence. The American Revolutionary War ended in 1783.

    In 1777, the 13 colonies made their first American flag with 13 stars and 13 stripes. This flag would go down in history of the remembrance of the 13 colonies.
