    known for his strong will and determination. He worked hard to unite Germany. he introduced a number of reforms that helped bring together the German states. He also went to war to win territory that he believed belonged to Germany.

    In 1863 King Christian IX took the Danish throne. He made a new constituion that both prussia and austria proseted. When the Danish wouldn't change their constituion prussia and austria declared war on the Dansih. after 3 months of fighting the Danish surendered.

    As prussian influences expended bizmarck prepared for conflict with austria.Prussia's effecient conduct during the war startled the whole world. Prussian forces took advantage of technology-Moving by train, comunicating by telegraph, and useing modern weaponry. The defeated the once powerfull Austrians in seven weeks. the treaty of Prague ended the seven week's war in 1866.

    To complete the unification of Germany, Bismark had to persuade the independant states in southern Germany to join the German confederation. His opportunity came in 1870 when he received a telegram from Kin William edited so that it sounded as if the king had insulted the French Ambassator. It so enraged the French so they declared war on Prussia,As Bismark expected, the southern states united against the French threat.The war ended after a few months of hard fighting,

    On January 18th 1871, representatives met in the hall of mirrors in the palace of versailles. Berlin became the empires capital. king william I was proclaimed German emperor. Bismark was named chancellor. Bismarks nickname became the "Iron Chancellor." They accepted a constitution that united the 25 German states in a ferderal form of government. Each state had its own ruler and emporer called the Kaiser headed the government,
