Act X _- An act declaring that Negroes cannot own weapons.
Act X says that Negroes are not allowed to carry or own a gun or any kind of weapon. This act is first because it was the first law created and it really showed how they felt about Negroes not being equal to whites. This really affected the Negroes because the only way they would be able to be healthy and get enough food was if they had a weapon to hunt with! Since Negroes wouldn’t be energized and they don’t have guns, it’s easier to take advantage of them.

  • Act I - An act about the casual killing of alaves

Act I - An act about the casual killing of alaves
This act is near the beginning because it is very unfair and prejudice that they think they can just go around and kill people, even if they are slaves. This is diminishing progress because this is about the worst thing that could happen to someone. If the slave did something bad, it's understandable if they got punished, but killing them is just too mean. If a white man did the same thing as a Negro, only the Negro would be punished or killed.
  • Document A- England Takes Johnson's Land

Document A- England Takes Johnson's Land
Document A is about Anthony Johnson, his family, and his land. Anthony Johnson had around 250 acres of land. 50 acres of that belonged to his son, Richard,it was later given to a white settler because a court said that since Johnson was a Negro, that his land belonged to the Crown.
This is an example of diminishing progress because it's not right that someone can take a Negroes land even if the Negroes rightfully own it.
  • Act VII - An act saying that Negro Children are tythable.

Act VII - An act saying that Negro Children are tythable.
This act says that Negro children are tyhtable to slavery at the age of twelve. If the children are Christian, they area allowed to wait until they are fourteen to start working as a slave. This act is not as bad as the others because it gives the children time to escape! But, it is still a bad law because they are forcing children to work. This is diminishing progress because they are forcing children to work, and that is just wrong.
  • Chapter IV - An act declaring who cannot bear office.

Chapter IV - An act declaring who cannot bear office.
Chapter IV states that anyone who is convicted of murder or any other crime or if they are a Negro, mulatto, or Indian that they are not allowed to bear office, be in the military, or be in any place where they would receive power. It also says that the child of an Indian and the child, grandchild, or even the great grandchild, of a Negro would be accounted and taken to be a mulatto or mixed. This is an example of diminishing progress because anyone should be able to have a say in who is going

Act IV - An act declaring who cannot bear office - continued
    to run their country.
  • Chapter XXII - An act declraing that slaves are realestate.

Chapter XXII - An act declraing that slaves are realestate.
This chapter says that Negro, Mulatto, and Indian slaves are to be real estate. This means that any slaves are a part of a piece of land. It is diminishing progress because it’s pretty much saying that slaves are not even people, that they are just a piece of property. It’s like comparing a person to something that isn’t even alive, which is really wrong. It also means that slaves are bought and sold like a piece of property and are owned by the people who own the land they live on.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
When Anthony Johnson came to Colonial America his life was like paradise. He had lots of land and a family, but then everyone started to think that Negroes were different then themselves. They took away their land and passed many laws against them. They also forced Negroes to work as slaves, then they became a part of their owners property. Negroes started out owning land, then they ended up as a part of land.
