Anton Drexler created the committe of independent workmen. They opposed the treaty of Versailles. Drexlerfollowed the typical views of militant nationalists. -

German Socialist workers party
Drexler created a new political party. it combined the committee of inependent workmen with a similar geoup. the party supported middle-class Germans. -
Adolf Hitler
The party had around 60 party members but the german authorities were still interested in it. They were suspicious of any party that had extermist tendencies. While attending a meeting hitler got involved in a dispute. After hearing Hitler's oratory skills he was invited to join the party and he accepted. He became the 55th member of the party -
NSDAP
The party added "National Socialist" to the name to appeal more to the socialists and nationalists -
Hitler becomes chairman
hitler discovered that he had oratory talent. Drexler also recognised this and Hitler became leader of the party on 28 July 1921. he then acquired the title "Fuhrer". After a short time period it was agreed that the party should have a Fuhrer Prinzip. -
Munich Putsch
The nazi's used a patriotic rally in a munich beer hall to launch an attempted putsch. it failed almost at once when the local reichswehr commanders refused to support it. hitler and his associates were given very lenient prison sentences. while hitler was in prison he wrote Mein kampf. -
Hitler is released from jail.
He has to completely rebuild the power and while in prison he changes his tactics. he learns that he will have to take power through the democratic system.
