  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand's assassination

    Ferdinand and his wife where shot and killed in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. The reason was to break Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia or a Yugoslavia
  • Germany invades Luxembourg

    Germany had full occupation of Luxembourg. Its occupation was justified to occupy citing the need to support their armies neighbouring France.
  • Japan makes 21 demands on China

  • German troops capture Warsaw

    It started on september 8 the Battle was fought between Polish Warsaaw Army and the German Army.

    The Easter Uprising started in April 1916 in Dublin and is one of the pivotal events in modern Irish history. At the end of the Easter Uprising, 15 men known as leaders were killed at Kilmainham Jail. To some, these men were traitors, to others they became heroes. What was the reason for their rebellion?
  • Battle of the Somme ends.

    The Battle of the Somme began on July 1st 1916 and ended in November. For alot of people, the Battle of the Somme was the battle that showed the horrors of warfare in WWI; this battle had an overall effect on the war.
  • The 10th battle of Isonzo begins.

    The tenth battle of the Isonzo was the beginning of another fight that had happend on the Isonzo front after six months of not being in a war. They were suppose to join the Allied forces of 1917, also with the second battle of Arras and the second battle of the Aisne, but in the event the attack on the Isonzo was running behind schedule and did not begin until the British and French offensives had failed.
  • Espionage Act is passed

    The Espionage Act was passed by Congress in 1917 after the United States entered WWI. It stated a $10,000 fine and 20 years' imprisonment for interfering with the recruiting of troops. Additional penalties were included for the refusal to perform military duty. Around 900 people went to jail because of this act during the past couple of months
