    Britain declared war on Germany in direct response to Germany's invasion in Belgium. Germany refused to withdraw from Belgium. Belgium had been considered a neutral country since 1839, and Germany did not respect that! SInce Germany did not respect Belgium's neutrality, Britain retaliated.

Captain William Thomas Turner was controling the Lusitania when a German U-boat launched a torpedo to the ferry's right side. The ferry sunk in 15-18 minuted. A German U-boat was a submarine that targeted boats and ferry's during the was while being underwater.

    This battle was the longest battle of the entire war. 350,000 were lost by the French and the German armies. The battle started by a letter sent from the German Chief of Staff to the Kaiser. This cause changed the outlook on the war from the Earstern front to the Western front.

Russia also handed the control of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Kurland, Livonia and Bessarabia to Germany and Austria-Hungary,
