    Peter Minuit comes to New Netherland
    In 1638 the Swedish government employed Peter Minuit to help them stablish a colony in America. New Netherland was one of those colonies. A Dutch West India company gave Peter absolute power of all the Dutch lands in America. Peter died on a ship accident going to Sweden.

    New Sweden extended as far as North Chrtistina which is the two sides along the Delaware River. The leader of the settlement was dutch man Peter Minuit.

    The Dutch army inveded Sweden on August 27, 1655. It became New Sweden, they kept their economy going by trading Europe.
    When the Sweden opened the second northern war, the Dutch took advantage and moved an army into the Delaware River.

    The English traveled to America with the hopes of conquering as many colonies. They took over Asterdam in 1664. It was then renamed as New York.
  • William Penn is granted the Charter for Pennsylvania

    William Penn is granted the Charter for Pennsylvania
    William Penn always referred to the king in order tell them how to
    help things. He said the way to better the colony was to get more english quakers. Everything that william Penn said usually helped. So in march 4th, 1681 the king sign the charter and gave it to Penn.

    Pennsylvania was founded in 1682, by William Penn. Penn had obtained a land grant from the king and the was called P.A. His goal was to create a land with freedom of religion in order to protect himself and fellow Quakers.

    From 1682-1684 William Penn himself lived in Pennsylvania. He befriended the local indians, mostly the Leni Lenape, which is the Delaware tribe. William Penn wanted to have good communications with the indians he even learned the language. He made treaties with the Indians and made sure their land was protacted, and they were paid for it.

    Walking Purchase
    The walking purchase was an agreement between the Penn family and the Lenape tribe. It stated the amount of land the Lenape were entitled to, since they wanted to sell. The Penn family told the Lenape they were untitled to as much land that could be covered in a days walk. The Penn family had it all plan and they hired the fastest runners which meant that more distance was covered. The runner covered some of the Lenapes land.The tribe honoring their deed moved from their lands.

    Pontiac's Rebellion
    Pontiac's Rebellion was a war started by Indian tribes who were mad about the British settling in their land. The war was named after the Ottawa leader Pontiac, since he was one of the most influencial charactes in the conflict. The war started on May, 1763 after the British went to far into Indian territories. The Indians attacked the colonists.

    The First Continental Congrees was held in September 5th, 1774 in Philadelphia, PA. It invided delegates from 12 different colonies.

    The Constitution was ratifies in September, 28, 1776. It was probably the most Democratic in America. It introduced a lot of new laws that stated that almost everything had to be verified by committe.

    Washinton and his army had spend a string of losing battles. After The Battle of Germantown and the Battle of Brandywine, Washingtonmarched his amy into Valley forge to rest, and recuperate from battle

    John Fitch invents the steamboat
    In 1788, the first successful steamboat was created, it was tested on the Delaware river, August 22, 1788, where members of the Convention were present, John Fitch was granted rights after a fight with James Rumsey about who had rights to the invention.

    The Lancaster Pike is completed
    This was the first privaly built roadway in the country. Built in 1794 this road extended from Lancaster to Philadelphia. Many German immigrants used it to penetrate the interiors of pennsylvania. After this was built all throught the country charters were being given in order to built different roads.
