Youtube was created by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. Steve worked at Paypal. Chad worked in Ebay's Paypal department. Jawed worked at Paypal as well where they all met. The inspiration for Youtube was when Jawed couldn't find a video of an incident involving Janet Jackson. Youtube was originally created as a dating website with videos. Source -

The first video was featuring Karim at the zoo. Youtube was made in a makeshift office in a garage. The coding used to make Youtube included JavaScript, Python, BigTable, and MySQL. When Youtube was first launched the team noticed it was failing, and to counter this they added keywords to the website so users could make it easier to find videos. Source -
Google Buys Youtube
SourceGoogle buys Youtube because of its massive success. Google knew Youtube was made for everyone and anyone to post or watch, therefore it was a great investment. Google made changes like needing a google account to use youtube and more. -
Youtube launches in 9 countries
Youtube launched 9 country websites. These countries included The UK, Brazil, Japan, France, Ireland, Holland, Poland, Italy, and Spain. These countries had their own sites for handpicked videos for each region. Source -
Google rids of Google+ requirement
Many Youtubers didn't like to be forced to create google+ accounts. Because of this Google was forced to remove this requirement to further the experience of Youtube. This made it much easier to create, manage, and use a Youtube account. Source
