    Stock Market Crash
    The stock market crash was a huge decline in stock market prices, which caused a huge decline in economic growth. This wiped out millions of investors who had invested stock in several things. This was significant because it was the start of the Great Depression, where nearly 15 million people became unemployed and banks failed all around. Industrial production also dropped by half and the homeless population rose severely. The great depression would leave a wound in the world for a long time.

    Japan invades Manchuria
    Japan was in need of space and resources due to it's fast growing population. So Japan invested lots of money into Manchuria. They then claimed the Chinese had sabotaged it in someway, so they attacked the Chinese troops in Manchuria. This was very significant in that Japan doing this violated the Treaty of Versailles, and it also was an event that would lead up to the 2nd Sino-Japanese war. Japan was then condemned by the League of Nations and withdrew shortly after.

    Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany.
    Adolf Hitler was given the position of Chancellor of Germany by the president Hindenburg. This created a rise in the Nazi's political power and shortly after the Nazi's gained 230 government seats. This was very significant as this was just the start of Nazi's taking control of Germany and Hitler obtaining absolute dictatorship. Hitler officially becoming the Chancellor was a huge rise of power that would set off his and the Nazis control of Germany, and now he held a huge role of authority.

    Reichstag Fire
    The Reichstag, which was a German Parliament building, was burnt down due to arson. The German government and the Nazis blamed communists for this act, thinking it was an attempt to overthrow the government, but today it's still unclear who actually did it. Due to this, many communists began getting prosecuted for planning an uprising. This was beneficial for the Nazi party because it remanded the power of the communists and the Nazis now had an opening to continue increasing their power.
  • The Spanish Civil war

    The Spanish Civil war
    This was a Spanish Military revolt against the Republican Government. Rebels received support from Italy and Nazi Germany, and the Republicans received support from the Soviet Union and U.S. During the war there was around 500,000 deaths, and this was was a very significant event as it portrayed a threat in the international equilibrium. This also created tension between the few countries supporting the two sides, the democracies (France and Britain) and the dictatorships (Italy and Germany.)
  • Second Sino-Japanese war

    Second Sino-Japanese war
    China began a full resistance in the expansion of the Japanese empire, and Japan declared war making it the second Sino-Japanese war. The Japanese captured the city of Nanjing, and ended up killing 250,000 Chinese, and raping 20,000 women. This was one of the worst massacres of all time, and created huge amounts of resentment between these two countries in the following decades. This battle was known as one of the most horrific ever.
