This was the action made by Germany that began WWll in 1939. Germany invaded Poland only days after signing the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. Under this pact, the Soviet Union agreed not to defend Poland from the east if Germany were to attack from the West. -

Operation Barbarossa was the code name for Nazi Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union during WWII. Adolf Hitler launched his armies eastward in a massive invasion of the Soviet Union: three great army groups with over three million German soldiers, 150 divisions, and three thousand tanks smashed across the frontier into Soviet territory.
