    American naval victory at Battle of Midway, marks turning point in Pacific War

  • Battle of Stalingrad begins

  • Surrender at Stalingrad

    Surrender at Stalingrad marks Germany's first major defeat

  • D-Day

    The day Allied Powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches on Normandy, France.

  • Harry Truman becomes President

    President Roosevelt dies and Harry Truman becomes President

  • Victory in Europe Day

    Germany lays down their arms. Great Britain and the United States celebrate as 13,000 Britain POW's are set free and a salute is given from Stalin that says, "The age-long struggle of the Slav nations... has ended in victory. Your courage has defeated the Nazis. The war is over.".

    The United States drops atomic bomb on Hiroshima
