  • Germany's Weimar Republic 1918 and 1933

    This brought in a new democratic republic into Germany, this gave more power to the people. But also gave Hitler an opportunity to become a dictator, legally, in the Weimar Republic.

  • Germany's anger 1919-1933

    The signing of the 'Treaty of Versailles', made Germany very angry, because they thought the terms of this treaty was too unfair, because they were made to take the blame of WW1. This carried through the Great Depression, which hit Germany hardest, to when Adolf Hitler came to power in the 1930's. Hitler used the German's people anger and made them support him in taking back the land that was stolen from them, and much more.

    This was one of the main causes for Germany going to war, because they wanted all their land and wealth back that was given to other countries due to the treaty of Versailles.

    The Great Depression started in 1929 and ended in 1939, it started because America's stock market crashed and they went into a depression, this depression spread throughout the world and became to be known as The Great Depression
  • Hitlers Rise to Power

    Hitler rose through to chancellor of Germany in 1933, and gained power over Germany, with his Nazi party, through the German's people anger towards of the Treaty of Versailles and the Great Depression. He made them believe the Nazi Party can make Germany great again.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    This was the spark/trigger that sparked the whole world into war. It brought Britain, (and it's colonies), and France to declare war.
  • Allied nations declare war on Germany

    After Germany invaded Poland the Allies went to war.
  • Germany invades Denmark and Norway

    After Germany invaded Poland, they moved on to Denmark and Norway.
  • Germany invades Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg

    Germany invaded the countries around it.
  • USSR Joins Allies

    This is where Germany invaded the USSR, causing them to declare war on Germany.
  • Japan attacked Pearl Harbor

    This event was key in bringing in the neutral United States of America into the world war. Making a war in the Pacific, which involved Australia. This caused USA to declare war on Japan the same day.
  • Australia declares war on Japan

    This is after the USA declared war on Japan.
  • Germany and Italy Declare war on USA

    This is after the USA declared war on Japan, and joined the allies in the war effort.
  • Air War January-December

    The Air War around Europe, made all the homelands of each country to be under attack.
  • Singapore Surrenders

    Singapore surrenders to Japan, and over 100,000 (approx.) thousand men become POW'S, with 22,000 (approx.) being Australians
  • Japan bomb Darwin, NT

    Japanese aircraft bomb Darwin, NT in Australia, showing how close Japan came to Australia.
  • Allies air attack on Germany

    From May on wards, the allies did large-scale air attacks in Germany because they couldn't reach Germany via land or sea.
  • Battle of the Coral Sea, 5-8 May

    This was a moral booster for the allies, because it was the first time the Japanese were stopped.
  • Japanese midget submarines attack Sydney Harbour

    This also shows how close the threat of the Japanese came to invading Australia.
  • Japan decide to take Port Moresby

    Japanese forces decide to take Port Moresby via the Kokoda Trail, on land.
  • Japanese defeat

    Japan face their first land defeat at the hands of the Australians, at Milne Bay.
  • Japanese Retreat

    The Japanese begun their retreat along the Kokoda Trail.
  • Australians recapture Kokoda

    This was a key event in the Japanese defeat in the Pacific.
  • German Defeat in Russia, 23 August 1942 – 2 February 1943

    The Germans suffer a significant defeat at the Battle of Stalingrad, in Russia. A key factor in driving them back at the Eastern Front.
  • Italy Surrenders to Allies

    This meant that the Axis Powers lost a major ally in Europe, this was showing that the tide of war was turning against the Axis Powers.
  • Italy joins Allies

    Italy declared war on Germany, (a former ally), this was key for the Allies because Italy had information on the Germans due to Italy and Germany's former alliance.
  • D-DAY

    This was the start of many defeats against Germany, starting with the Capture of German-occupied France.
  • USA take Okinawa

    The Battle of Okinawa made the US decide that taking the Japanese home island, (Japan), would result in too many lives being lost, from civilians to the fighting man.
  • Failed Assassination on Hitler

    This shows that the allies were getting close to Hitler and Germany, and that spy's were in Germany getting information for the Allies.
  • Allies liberate Paris

    The liberation of Paris was the first of many losses for the Germans, with the allies gaining ground and momentum towards Germany and Berlin.
  • Liberation of Auschwitz

    This liberation showed the allies the atrocities that the Germans committed during the course of the war.
  • Air Raids against Japanese cities

    This brought victory for the US closer, but they didn't want to invade the Japanese homeland, because of the losses seen in previous battles. USA wanted a plan to make Japan surrender without any casualties.
  • Russia enters Berilin

    This ensured allied victory when the Russian army entered Berlin, Germany.
  • Hitler's Suicide

    Hitler knew that the Russians would do terrible things to him, and that Britain, USA, and France would want to interrogate him. This made him do suicide, killing his dog and wife (Eva Braun) as well. This demoralized the German public a lot, because they trusted and believed in him.
  • Germany surrenders

    This event ended a long 5 year war, of the Allies against the Axis powers to an end.
  • VE Day

    Victory in Europe, brought peace to the world and brought the Germans, and other Axis powers, to justice with their war crimes.
  • Hiroshima, Japan

    This was the first use of Atomic and Nuclear weapons in war, with an Atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima, killing approximately 45,000 people instantly. This was key in the surrender of Japan.
  • Nagasaki, Japan

    This was the last, and only second, use of an Atomic/Nuclear weapon in war. With an Atomic bomb being dropped on Nagasaki, killing approximately 22,000 people. This was key in the surrender of Japan.
  • VP DAY

    Victory in the Pacific, when Japan surrendered, after the US dropped the Atomic bombs on Japan. The use of the Atomic bombs brought a new era of military actions around the world, and was key in the Cold War between the US and USSR, in the 1960's.
