MaoZedong heads Long March
The long march occured during the Chionese civil war. Mao Zedong lead the red army (the communist troops) in retreat. Mao knew the Kuomintang was advancing on them, so they retreated. -
Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany
After taking the Sudetenland, the Allies thought Hitler was happy, but he wasn't. Hitler decided to invade Poland (and conquer it). This was when France and Britain declared war on Germany, and WWII begins. -
Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
Japan's forces attack the naval base at Pearl Harbor. General Yamamoto ordered the attack because "America was a dagger pointed at Japan's throat." Japan felt as if America was going to attack Japan, so Japan made the first move. Japan sent bombers over the Pacific to bomb Pearl Harbor. -
United Nations formed
At the end of WWII, 50 nations met (not Germany) to discuss matters of unity. The United Nations Charter was sigmed Unifying the members of the UN. -
Germany surrenders
In April, 1945, Hitler killed himself and his girlfriend. Germany knew it was going to loose at this point and had already begun to surrendur, but the death of Hitler was the official day of victory, or VE day. -
Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
After warning Japan that the US would had nucleur capabilities, and that Japan had to surrendur, Japan didn't reply. The US then bombed the city of Hiroshima. Japan still didn't surrendur, so The US then bombed Nagasaki. Finally, Japan (Hirohito) would surrendur.
