  • Invasion of Manchuria

    Japan invades Manchuria in order to stablize the growth rate of their population. Due to overpopulation and lack of resourses, Japans government decides they need more space and more resources.

  • Start of Italian Occupation of Ethiopia

    The Italian government was bitter with the results from WW1 and unhappy with the territory they got so they decided to take one of the 2 independant countries in Africa. Ethiopia has strategic river access which allows for the movement of supplies, but its also surrounded by Allied territory.
  • Treaty of Cooperation between Italy and Germany is signed

    Nazi Germany under Hitler's control and Fascist Italy under Mussolini, agree to sign a cooperation treaty. This is when the sides of WW2 start to become evident.
  • Invasion of China

    Japan Invades China, officially starting WW2 in the pacific.
  • Anschluss

    Germany includes Austria in the Anschluss.
  • Munich Agreement

    Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy sign the Munich agreement, forcing Czechoslovak Republic to give the Sudetenland, and several important military defense positions to Germany.
  • Non-Aggression pact signing

    Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler agree to sign a non aggression pact. this pact was an attempt to insure the safety of both countries from eachother.
  • Invasion of Poland

    Hitler's troops invades Poland, utilizing a very swift and effective warefare tactic called blitzkrieg, or lightning war. This officially starts WW2 in Europe.
  • Tripartite Pact

    Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact. This clearly defines the Axis powers from the Allied Powers.
  • Battle of Britain

    The 3 month, 21 day, ariel conflict ends on Holloween. This was a big defeat for Hitler's troops.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Japan surprise attacks Pearl Harbor, killing thousands of American sailors, sinking American ships, and forcing the US to enter the war.
  • Declaration of War

    A secret meeting was called between the President, Secretary of Defense, Vice President, and several cabinet members. They decided to enter WW2 and declare war on Japan for the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
  • Mobilization and Declaration

    By this time, Japanese troops land in the Philippines, French troops land in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and British Troops land in Singapore. Nazi Germany and the Remainder of the Axis Powers declare war against the United States.
  • Battle of Midway

    Japan sought to eliminate the US as a strategic power in the Pacific. Japan's first naval defeat since 1863.
  • Battle of Stalindgrad ends

    Soviet troops counterattack after the Nazi's attempt on the Crimean peninsula. The Soviets trap the 6th Army in Stalingrad. The Nazi's are forbidden by Hitler from leaving the Soviet ring or reatring, the survivors of the 6th surrender on January 30th and February 2nd.
  • Italian Government Surrenders

    Italian government surrenders unconditionally to the Allies. Nazi's Immediately seize control of Rome and northern Italy, they estabish a puppet regime under Mussolini.
  • D-Day

    British, French, Canadian, and American troops all take part in storming the beaches of Normandy, France as a part of Operation Overlord. Stakes were very high for this invasion, the tide of the war would favor the victor.
  • Liberation of Paris

    Allied troops reach Paris on August 20th. French forces in Paris are liberated on the 25th of August. The Allies will continue from there to push for the German border.
  • Operation Detachment

    The Battle of Iwo Jima ended with 6821 Allied KIAs, and 19,217 wounded. My grandfather was one of the wounded, his cousin was one of the fallen.
  • The Fall of a Tyrant

    Adolf Hitler and his wife commit suicide in his bunker. Their bodies and all evidence was burned near the entrance.
  • Surrender

    Germany Surrenders to Allied forces. Germany surrenders to the Soviets two days later.
  • Okinaowa

    Allied troops gained control of the last island stop before the Japanese islands, Okinawa. Japan was running out of breathing room, and the allies were ready for more.
  • Hiroshima

    The first of the two atomic bombs dropped on Japanese cities, this was not enough of a persuasion for the Japanese governtment to give up.
  • Nagasaki

    The US has been working with government agencies on The Manhatten Project. After a single test drop, the US dropped 2 bombs on 2 cities.
  • Japanese Surrender

    Japan formally agreed to unconditionally surrender and end WW2.
