    This day was called "Black Tuesday' because it was the start of the Great Depression. It was the day the values of the stocks significantly decreased and everyone went into debt. The stock market crash affected countries all around the world.

    Adolf Hitler was the reason why the Second World War happened. This is a significant event because if he wasn't elected by the people of Germany, he would not have been able to do anything that he did. WWII would not have happened at all.
  • Adolf Hitler becomes Führer of Germany

    Adolf Hitler becomes Führer of Germany
    This was an important step for Hitler because he needed the support of the people of Germany. As a führer, he can do so much more than just the chancellor of Germany.

    Hitler introduced military conscription, violatoing one of the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. This can be very danegrous for everyone because this puts all countries in danger. No body knew where Hitler would have attacked first.

    This was another important step for Hitler in carrying out the Final Solution. He wanted all Jewish people to suffer because he was an anti-Semitic. He hated all Jewish people and did not want them on the earth.

    This was an important step for Hitler because he wanted to take over Europe and restore Germany to its original state and glory. In order for him to take over the rest of Europe, he had to take over the ocuntries/regions around him and then branch out.

    The Spanish Civil War was a war between communists and fascists. To prevent Canadian involvement in the this war, Mackenzie King banned Canadians from fighting in foreign armies. Still, over 1500 Canadians defied the law and went to Spain to fight. Canadians in Spain formed the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion, or the Mac-Paps.

    Neville Chamberlain Appeases Hitler at Munich
    Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain appeased to Hitler's demands that the Treaty of Versailles' restrictions against Germany were unfair. Germany, France, Britain, and Italy came to an agreement that Sudetenland be returned to Germany, but no further territorial actions were to be made by Hitler. This was known as the Munich Agreement. The Munich Agreement was made in the 1930's in Munich. This was a step to WWII.

    In order for Hitler to gain control of Europe, he had to take over the countries that were sround Germany first. Sudetenland was one of those countries.

    Czechoslovakia was the next country on Hitler's list. Hitler knew that the League of Nations would not try to stop him when he took control over country after country, so he saw it as an oppurtnity.

    Half of the 1500 Canadians who went to fight in the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion died while fighting the war and when Franco's army became victorious, the Canadians who survived the fight returned home.

    This was an important event in the Second World War because it was after Hitlr invaded Poland that the League of Nations took military action against him.

    This event was significant to Canada because it proves that the war even affected Canada. By Canada declaring war on Germany, it shows that Canada got involved and did something to stop Hitler. This is the first major decision Canada has made without Britain's influence. We are starting to become an independant country.
  • VE Day

    "VE" stands for Victory Europe. It represents the day that Nazi's surrendered to the Allied forces on. This is a symbolic and joyous day for many Europeans, Jewish people, non-Aryans, homosexuals, etc. They would no longer be contained in concentration camps and they did not have to fear for their lives. So many Canadians lost their lives during WWII and this meant that they were able to finally return home.
  • VJ Day

    VJ Day
    "VJ" stands for Victory over Japan. It is the name for the day Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, finally ending the Second World War. Japan's surrender was announced on 15 August 1945 and the signing of the document occurred on 2 September 1945. VJ Day applies to both of these days. It is a day to remember as there were many soldiers that had lost their lives on both the Allied forces and the Axis forces. It is important to remember the victory over Japan that officially ended WWII.
