The invasion of France began on D-day (departure day) when allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. This major turning point of the war began the liberation of western Europe. -
The United states sent warning to Japan to either surrender or face an atomic bombs destruction. These were the first (and only) atomic bombs to be used in war and ultimately led to the end of WWII. The first was dropped Aug 6 on Hiroshima, Japan and the second on Aug 9 on Nagasaki, Japan.
