  • Hitler is Elected

    Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany And the Third Reich better known as the Nazi party effectively seizes a complete dictatorial hold on Germany. This event represents change because it does involve any kind of war, only the changing of politics.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland after promising to stop invading countries and Britain and France declare war on Germany. This represents change, because while the two countries have declared war, there was no real fighting and was only a political move at the time to try and stop Germany from advancing any further.
  • Battle of Britain

    Germany launches an air attack on Great Britain the attacks continue until October and are known as the Battle of Britain. This event is an example of continuity because actual fighting coming from Germany in order to continue their dictatorship over the countries they hold.
  • Pearl Harbor

    The Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor and the next day the United States officially enters World War II. This is definitely an example of continuity because the Japanese showed extreme violence towards the US even though they were neutral at the time.
  • D-Day

    D-day and the Normandy invasion. Allied forces invade France and push back the Germans. This is an example of continuity because the Allies are invading France and successfully fight to push back the Germans
  • Battle of the Bulge

    The Germans launch a large attack in the Battle of the Bulge. They lose to the Allies sealing the fate of the German army. The event here is once again an example of continuity because of the warfare that needed to occur for the Allies to win against the Germans.
  • Roosevelt Passes

    US President Franklin Roosevelt dies and is succeeded by President Harry Truman. This event is an example of change because it has nothing to do with warfare and winning or losing a war, it is only politics.
  • Hitlers Suicide

    Adolf Hitler commits suicide as he knows Germany has lost the war. This is an example of continuity, because even though warfare as a whole did not take place, there was still a loss of life due to the war.
  • Germany Surrenders

    Germany surrenders to the Allies. This event is an example of change because it did not directly involve fighting, just Germany admitting defeat.
  • Hiroshima

    The United States drops the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The city is devastated. The event shown here is an example of continuity because the United States used extreme violence to end the war against Japan, effectively killing hundreds of thousands of people.
  • Thesis

    World War II was a huge war against Germany and the Axis powers against the allies this war fits in with theme theme three, State building, expansion, and conflict. Events in this war also more greatly represent continuity because of the constant fighting and attacks going on throughout the war, however there is also some change occurring when it comes to politics.
