    Poland was supposed to be split between the two main powers, which gave Germany the chance to attack Poland with worry of Soviet intervention. The Polish army was swiftly defeated and Poland now belonged to Germany.

    Operation Overlord, otherwise known as D-Day was the day allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. This day marked the start of the liberation of Western Europe.

    On this day, the president of the U.S., Harry Truman decided to have two nuclear bombs dropped, one on each of two large cities in Japan. The cities were Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This attack forced Japan to surrender, putting an end to WWII.
