Vladimir Lenin was the founder of Bolshevism. He was exiled to Siberia in 1897 and was committed to class struggle and revolution. He befriended Leon Trotsky when he moved to London in 1902. In 1917 he gave amnesty to all prisoners. In 1918, the Bolsheviks party was renamed the communist party. -
Russian Revolution
Russians industrialized on the backs of the peasants. There was a huge amount of hunger among peasants.There was a corrupt military leadership and contempt for ordinary Russian people.Tsar at that time payed no attention to the Duma. Alexandra was worse. -
Benito Mussolini
He was the fascist leader of Italy that preached extreme Nationalism. He eliminated all other political parties and gained power with the disappointment of the Treaty of Versailles. He promised to make Italy great by building the military and promising jobs to the majority of people that were unemployed. -
Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union. He ordered his people to produce more goods in order to strengthen the country in preparation for war. All the farmers were forced to give up their land and join collective farms. Millions of farmers were either killed or sent to labor camps if they resisted. He killed many of his people because he lived in fear that people will get too much power and support and over-rule him. -
Japanese Invasion of Manchuria
Japanese attacked China because they thought the Chinese sabotaged their railway system. They took over most of China. Even though 40 nations thought that the Japanese should withdraw from Manchuria, the Japanese thought that it would be best if they withdrawed frm the Leagues. -
Adolf Hitler
He formed his own brand of fascism known as Nazism. He was an anti-communist that turned Germany to a totalitarian state. He promised to restore Germany's greatness and lands. Jobs were provided during a massive economic depression. -
Franklin Roosevelt
He was famous for his firesite chats and giving jobs to all the people that didnt have jobs. He wanted the US to stay out of the war. Although he wasnt part of the war at that time, he was indirectly part of it. He declared war on Japan when Pearl Harbor was attacked. -
Germany Moving Troops Into Rhineland
In March 7, Germany forced its way to Rhineland. It was easy for him to conquer it because it was demilitarized. -
Neville Chamberlain
Neville Chamberlain was the prime minister of Britain. He is known for signing the Munich Pact in 1938. The appeasement was because he did not want to go to war with Germany. Instead of putting up boundaries, he gave Hitler small parts of Czechoslovakia. Eventually, he handed his position to Winston Churchill. -
Germany Annexation of Austria
Hitler wanted to reunite the Germans together so he invaded Austria. His plan was working because he was targeting areas that were over-populated by German people. -
The Munich Conference.
Germany had a conference with Italy, Great Britain, and France leaders to allow him to gain control of the Sudetenland and Czechoslovakia. The leaders agreed to give Hitler that land but nothing more. -
Germany Claims the Sudetenland
The Sudetenland was claimed by Germany on October 10, 1938. It was mostly populated by German people that welcomed him in. -
Germany Invasion of Czechoslovakia
Hitler threatened to bomb the main capital if his troops were not allowed to cross the border without being fired at. As of that time, Hitler had 66% of the Czech's coal and natural resources. Without them, it made them weak. -
German Invasion On Poland.
Germany invaded Poland because they did not have a fear of the Soviet Union attacking them. Because of this, Britain and France declared war on Germany two days later. Hitler agreed with Stalin to only get part of Poland and Eastern Europe but he boke that agreement. -
Winston Churchill
On September 3, 1939, Britain declared war on Germany. Hitler started a plan called "Invasion Sea Lion" so they can invade Britain. In July 1940, Germany invade Britain with nearly 2x the aircraft as Britain. Everyday between July and Oct of 1940, the RAF and Luftwaffe clashed over Britain. On Sept 17, Operatiion Sea Lion was called off and Britain won their first victory in WWII. Unlike Chamberlain, Churchill believed that Germany needed to be fought and beat. -
Attack On Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked Oahu, Hawaii while everyone slept. Japanese were mad that the US stopped supplying them with resources. The men thought it was a drill until it was announced that it was a real attack. Dory Miller was announced a hero for shooting down 4 Japanese planes. -
The United States enterance into WWII
The US decided to go into war when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. They were also allied with Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union to attack Hitler and keep them from taking more land and killing more people.
