    Mao, a former librarian who was soon to be the first communist dictator of China, led the long march, where he and other communists were having difficulties fighting the nationalists.

    Germany invades Poland and France and Britain declare war on Germany
    Germany invaded Poland, which some argue was the start of WWII. Others argue that it began with the invasion of Manchuria. It was at this point however, that massive war would break out in Europe, appeasment policies were abolished.

    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacks Pearl Harbor in Hawii, bringing the USA officially into World War II. Before this, the US stayed generally neutral, cutting off the sales and supplies to nations at war, but later supplying the British. At one point US Ships were ordered to attack German submarines, however. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Japan invaded several areas in Asia, but the US was ready to launch their own attacks withen months.

    In an effort to create peace, the United Nations was formed. Many nations were invited to join, and it was somewhat of a new and improved globalized version of the League of Nations.

    After years of war, Germany surrenders, and the allies had won the war in Germany. However, the war in Japan was still going.

    USA uses atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The USA used two bombs, "fat man" and "little boy" and dropped one on each city. After the first attack, the US sent word that they had many more atomic bombs, although they only had the two that they intended to use.
