Mao Zedong heads Long March

Mao Zadong lead a 6,000 mile journey called the Long March because his party, the Communists were being chased by the Nationalists.

Germany invades Poland; France and Great Britain declare war on Germany

Hitler attacks Poland after signing a non aggression pact. After the Germans attack Poland France and Britain declare war on Germany. This was called the sitting or phony war.

Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

Mar 19, 1941

Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. The U.S. knew of this attack because they decoded a Japanese message but did not know where the attack was coming from and how to be prepared.

Germany surrenders

Mar 19, 1945

At the battle of the Bulge Germany was doing poorly and to surrender. The Allies ended up beating Germany and the Germans surrendered to General Eisenhower.

Allies use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

After Pearl Harbor the Japanese were a big threat to the the U.S. and the U.S. felt it was nesessary to drop an atomic bomb in Japan to end the war.

United Nations Formed
