    The Serbian nationalist group, The Black Hand, and one of their member, Gavrilo Princip, were responsible. This event is what sparked the war to begin.

    Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
    This was the official start of WWI. Austria-Hungary gave Serbia a one month ultimatum to give up the killers of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Serbia refuses and caused Austria to declare war.

    The Ottoman Empire joined the war on the Central powers side, joining Germany. The Ottoman was a strong ally that the Germans received.

    A german U-boat torpedoed this British boat and sank it. It killed 1,195 people and 128 of them were American. This was another reason that the U.S. decided to join the war.

    This battle takes place in Verdun, France. The French held off a huge German offensive. It was also one of the longest battles of the entire war.
  • Zimmerman Note

    This event was one of the main reasons of why the U.S. joined the war. It was a note sent by German prime minister, Arthur Zimmerman, that got intercepted by Britain. The note was supposed to go Mexico. Germany was asking them to join the war on their side and in return they would receive their taken U.S. land.

    This was the day that U.S. officially joined the war on the allied powers side. Their main reasons for joining were the Zimmerman note and the sinking of the Lusitania.

    Wilson announced his 14 points to Congress. He did this to try to bring about a peaceful basis once the war ends. All his points were used to combat militarism, alliances, imperialism. His last point was to set up a league of nations.

    The treaty was between Russia and Germany. It officially declared Russia out of WWI. Russia also signed a bunch of land over to Germany in the treaty

    This document being signed officially ended WWI. There were 3 main people who ran the negotiations of the treaty. The three people were Woodrow Wilson from the U.S., David Lloyd George from Britain, and George Clemenceau from France.
