    Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by President Hinderburg. His election was a big turning point for germany and even for the world. His plans were to do away with politics and form a unified one-party state.

    SS opens the Dachau Concentration Camp outside of Munich
    Dachau was the first regular concentration camp. The camp was established by Nazis. The first year it had 4,800 prisoners which was mostly consisted of German Communist, Social Democrats, Trade Unionist, and other politcal governments that went against the Nazis.

    This is a settlement reached by Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and France. The settlement allowed Germany to invade into western Czechoslovakia. Hitler was drawing up plans for the occupation of Czechoslovakia.

    Germany invades Denmark and Norway
    On april 6th 1940, Germany invaded Denmark and Norway which deployed thousands of German troops. At the same time, German forces occupied Copenhagen, among other Danish cities. The order from Norwegian commander loyal to Norway's pro-fascist former foreign minister Vidkun Quisling stated that local garrisons were ordered to allow the Germans to land unopposed which is why the Germans could slip right through the mines that Britain had laid in Norwegian ports.

    On july tenth 1940, Gremany began bombing Britain continuously. The battle lasted three and half months. After the occupation of France by Germany, Britain knew it was only a matter of time before the Axis power turned its sights across the Channel.

    Hitler declared war on the united states, bringing America who had been neutral into the European conflict. On December 8, Japanese Ambassador Oshima went to German Foreign Minister von Ribbentrop to nail the Germans down on a formal declaration of war against America. Hitler was convinced that the United States would soon beat him to the punch and declare war on Germany.

    The Battle of Kursk took place between the Germans and the Soviets. It was the Germans unsuccessful assault on the Soviets. In an attempt to recover the offensive on the Eastern Front, the Germans planned a surprise attack on the salient from both north and south, hoping to surround and destroy the Soviet forces within the bulge

    Rescue of the Jews in Denmark
    Around 7,200 Jews were brought saftey by many ordinary citizens. This action made Denmark have the highest rate of jews to be rescued. When the German police began searching for and arresting Jews on the night of October 1, 1943, the Danish police refused to cooperate.

    160,000 Allied troops landed on a 50 mile French coastline to fight German Nazis. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircrafts supported the D-Day invasion. By the end of the day The Allies gained foot hold on Normandy, and more than 100,000 soilders marched across Europe to defeat Hitler.
