    Australian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife got assassinated by Bosnian revolutionary Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo. The assassination began the start of World War 1.

  • World War One Begins

    After serb nationalist, Garilo Princip, assassinated Australian Archduke, Franz Ferdinand, and his wife a war began. The war opened a gateway to what would form into World War 1. The war began when Austria declared war on Serbia.
  • Alliances Formed

    Alliances began to form, the two starting alliances were Allies and Central Powers. The Allies side was made up of the United Kingdom, France, Serbia, and Russia. Later Italy, Romania, Greece, Portugal, and Belguim joined Allies. Central Powers were Germany and Austria Hungary. Later Bulgaria and Ottoman Empire joined the Central Powers.
  • RMS Lusitania

    RMS Lusitania
    The British ocean liner RMS Lusitania is sunk by German U-boat on the coast of Ireland. The bombing of the Lusitania caused 1,200 deaths, 128 of the people were Americans. Was accused of carrying weapons by Germany, that was why they attacked. Woodrow Wilson threatened to cut off diplomatic relations with Germany. So Germany agreed to before attacking any ship the U-boats would come up to surface to warn any neutral people on the boat to get off and on to lifeboats.

    Tsar Nicolas II and Russian Army
    Tsar Nicolas II takes over the Russian army and begins to mobilize them. By 1915 Russian army was very mobilized and consisted of 1,423,000 men but by the end of the war 15,500,000 men had fought for Russia in World War 1. The Russians were victorious in the beginning of war but then the downfall came in St. Petersburg were they lost lives and men who became captives. Also the food shortages and military supplies.

    Battle of Verdun Begins.
    The Battle of Verdun was the longest and bloodiest battle in World War 1. The German Cheif began to plan an assualt against the French city of Verdun. German began assaults on the east side and was successful. Von Falkenhayn claimed that he didn't mean to win a decisive battle but to "bleed the French white" by forcing them to defend themselves at a place they couldn't retreat from.
  • United States Joins World War 1

    The United States joined World War 1 because Germany looked like they were being defeated and wanted to be apart of the post war carve up. The U.S. also joined because of the Zimmerman Telegram and the sinking of seven American merchant ships. Britain set it up so the U.S. would join.
  • Bolsheviks overthrow Russian Government

    The Bolsheviks successfully overthrow the Russian government. Bolsheviks were also known as the communists, "red". Russia also had a social group called the Mensheviks but they were rejected by Lenin who saw it as capitalist tricks. Lenin then joined Germany and took down Russia, who didn't have a large urban proletariat.

    U.S. President Woodrow Wilson issued the Fourteen Points to create peace. Fourteen Points consisted of a list of terms resolving World War 1 and future wars. It was a peace propsal created to end war between countries.

    The Treaty of Versallies
    The Fourteen Points created by Woodrow Wilson may have sparked the idea of the war ending but what officially ended World War 1 was the Treaty of Versallies. The treaty was between Germany and the Allies. The treaty said that Germany would take full responsibility for starting the war and had to pay the reparations to the Allies.
