The invasion was to challenge japan to gain control over the whole province so they can take all of East Asia. Japan continued to expand into china, leading to all out war between those countries.

With the power given to Germany Wehrmacht troops had entered Austria to enforce the Anschluss. Because Hitler took over Austria this gave Germany more power and made Hitler believe that he could invade any country.
