  • Schlieffen Plan

    Schlieffen Plan
    A German general staff named Alferd von Schlieffen created a stratagy to fight on both fronts. Germanys army would fight the French on the western front and the Russians on the eastern front, It took Germany 9 years to get this plan up and running.
  • Triple Alliance

    Triple Alliance
    Otto Von Bismarck, the ruler of Germany, saw France as a great threat to peace. He was convinced that France still wanted revenge for its defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Bismarck then decided to isolate France; Germany then made an alliance with Austria-Hungary in 1879. This was the Dual Alliance. In 1882, Italy joined this alliance to create the Triple Alliance, also known as the Central Powers.
  • Triple Entente

    Triple Entente
    The Triple Entene was betweeen Great Britian, France, and Russia. This entene did not ensure that Great Britian would fight with France and Russia but it made sure that they would not fight against them. The Triple Entene is a prime example of three countries forming an alliance and how alliances have had a huge impact and effect on World War 1.
  • The Western Front

    The Western Front
    The western front used a new technique of war using trenches that went 700 killometers from the Belgium coast to the Swiss boarder. With both sides digging threnches sometimes only meters apart it was the only thing that kept them alive. Many people thought that this side of the war was larger but in all actuallity the eastern war was larger.
  • Eastern Front

    Eastern Front
    The war at the Eastern Front lasted from August 17, 1914 until March 3, 1918. The war on the eastern front was generally ignored due to the popularity of the war on the western front. The war on the eastern front was fought primarily between the Central Powers and the Russian empire. As time went on other countries joined the central powers and the Russian empire to making the war larger.
  • Battle of the Marne

    Battle of the Marne
    The battle of the Marne was the first battle to be fought in World War 1. This battle lasted from September 6tth through September 12th of 1914. The Germans invaded the outskirts of Paris initiating the war against the French. This attack resulted in defeat for the Germans and started the unexpectedly long and deadly World War 1.
  • Gallipoli Campaign

    Gallipoli Campaign
    The Allies created a well-thought out plan to help get supplies to Russia. They would first attack Dardanelles in the Ottoman Empire. By capturing Dardanelles, the Allies believed that they could capture Constantinople. By teking COnstantinople, they could defeat the Turks and create a supply line to Russia. The Allies were attacked by the British, Australian, New Zealand, and French troops and eventually, the Allies gave up.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
    At this point in World War 1, Russia is having great shortages in food and fuel. Because of this and more than 5.5 million of their soldiers wounded or killed, the Russian army decided that they can't fight any longer and surrender. Germany and Russia sign a treaty. This treaty ended the war between them.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    Treaty of Versailles
    The Treaty of Versailles was between Germany and the Allies. Before this, the Fourteen Points were created; this was a plan to keep peace in countries. The Treaty of Versailles adopted the fourteenth point. The fourteenth point proposed a "general association of nations" that would protect "great and small states alike".
  • League of Nations

    League of Nations
    The Treaty of Versailles eventually created the League of Nations. This league was supposed to be an international association whose goal would be to keep peace among nation. This also punished Germany, made people lose territory, and put restrictions on military moves.
